"Homeless" by Matt Albertsen, Age 10

I was recently going through old papers of mine, and I found this little gem that I wrote in 4th Grade. It's a topical poem about the homeless.

There are many highlights, but I think this is my favorite stanza:

"When I have nothing to give them,
I feel mad.
But if you give them money,
they might buy drugs, alcohol or something bad."

I went there! I like how the last line actually implies that drugs and alcohol don't factor into the "something bad" category.

Also:
"They never talk,
They never tell people they have no socks."

Wow.
