This weekend I find myself in the vast state of Ohio. And more than just a physical state, it is also becoming a state of mind. So here is what I know about Ohio
1) it is very flat
2) it is home to the rock and roll hall of fame
3) it's capitol city claims to have the second largest gay population in the country. I don't believe that.
4) some kids got shot during a protest at Kent State
5) there is a school named Miami of Ohio, but no one knows why
6)The highest recorded temperature was 113 °F (45 °C), near Gallipolis on July 21, 1934. The lowest recorded temperature was -39 °F (-39 °C), at Milligan on February 10, 1899. That's cool
Does anyone else know fun things about Ohio?????
Please, help me make my stay here more informative

lebron james lives there...
ReplyDeleteMy grandmother lived in Ohio and I have family there, so I've been like 25+ times.
ReplyDeleteHowever, my knowledge is generally limited to the small towns of Salem and Ravenna. I've been to Cleveland only a couple of times.
BUT WHAT I KNOW-
There's a supermarket chain called Giant Eagle. They love America.
Soda in Ohio is called "Pop." It's weird. If you ask, hey, where the soda in this store? they will look at you like you're a ridiculous human being. There's even a website devoted to this Pop vs. Soda phenomenon: http://popvssoda.com:2998/
People LOVE to sail small boats in Ohio.
They get more snow there than we get in Worcester. (CRAZY!!!)
Fireworks are legal to buy, but illegal to shoot off in the state. You are supposed to take them out of the state within 48 hours. Everyone of course ignores that law though. Thus there's lots of cool fireworks stores.
You will do a lot of driving to get to places. The roads are very straight.
The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame is very cool, as is Cleveland. The gay thing is kind of hard to believe, hey maybe as Cleveland has a completely different feel than anywhere else in the state. In the Rock Hall they have all the poloraids used for the cover of the Talking Heads "More Songs About Buildings and Food." There's also Britney outfits.
Kim Deal and Robert Pollard of Guided by Voices live in Dayton. Other cool people live there too. However I heard Dayton alone is not that cool.
Kent is a pretty cool area. It's a little like Worcester, but cleaner and with a better record store.
